Split Time

Another Boy Sets Fire 7" that I picked up. Boy Sets Fire cover two Coalesce songs and vice versa. It also gave me the chance to check out Coalesce again. Sorry, Marcus, but the voice is still so off-putting to me. Can't get into it at all. So, Boy Sets Fire clearly wins this one for me.

Suckerpunch Training

7" from when Boy Sets Fire were still good and Nathan Gray hadn't discovered social media. I really like the BSF song and the cover of Elton John's Rocket man is great as well. 1000 copies on clear yellow vinyl.

Time & Pressure

Finally snagged a copy of Mindset's Time & Pressure 7". Red vinyl works pretty well with the sleeve, however I feel that maroon would have been the better choice. First press out of 400 copies.

Suffering

About two years ago I traded away my copy of Betrayed's Suffering 7". I don't even remember the colour of the record, but a very good friend of mine needed that colour to complete his collection, so I gladly traded it to him. I always meant to replace the record with at least a black copy, but lo and behold, two years had gone by and I hadn't gotten around to it. Coincidentally, said friend decided to downsize his collection recently and I got this copy on blue vinyl (/200) from the person I had traded my original copy to.

Crippled Enough

I've really been enjoying the first Enough 7", so when I had the chance to get a version with a special sleeve, I jumped on it. Crippled Youth rip-off cove. I don't have any idea how many copies there are though, so any input is welcome.

Dookie

There was a time when basically all I was listening to was Dookie and Insomniac by Green Day. That was a loooooong time ago and as you might have guessed, this is another stroll down memory lane. I still have the CDs lying around here, but it was high time to pick up Dookie on vinyl. I wanted to treat myself a little bit, so I went for the nice pink vinyl. Still holds up for me after all these years.

The Battle Of Growing Older

So, I'm about to turn 35 in a couple of days. Now, this may not seem like a big deal to many, especially many fellow collectors who have a few more miles on their meter, but it somehow feels like it to me. 40 is not that far away once you turn 35. Yeah, age is just a number and you're only as old as you feel, yadda yadda. But deep down, we all know these are just hollow phrases. Subconsciously (or not) I've been listening to a lot of music I was listening to when I first got into hardcore and punk. Yesterday I wrote that the Beastie Boys were a gateway band for me, well the same is true for Rage Against The Machine. They were touring on this LP when I caught them live at a big festival and that turned everything around for me. It also helped they had Guerilla Radio on the soundtrack of THPS2, which was basically all I was doing at the time when I was not skateboarding. All of that seems forever ago and growing older just sucks.

Hello Nasty

I absolutely love the Beastie Boys. Hands down one of the best and most influential bands ever and one of my gateway bands to, well, everything. Hello Nasty was the first of their LPs that I got to experience back when it came out in 1998 and I remember listening to this record non-stop and falling absolutely in love with it. And that love hasn't changed. If anything, it has become stronger. Having said that, Hello Nasty is probably not the best Beastie Boys LP, but for nostalgic reasons alone it's probably my favourite one. I had the CD back then and it took me only forever to finally get a copy on vinyl. If I could listen to only one band for the rest of my life, the Beastie Boys are right up there. Current repress on 2x180g vinyl.

Find Your Place

On occasion I help some friends of mine when they set up shows. At the last show they did, this rather new German band Tides Denied was playing and I really dug their set. So I picked up their current 7" to check them out on vinyl. I thought they were better live, but I'm into the songs on vinyl, too. I really like the cover art of this 7" and I love the vinyl colour. 270 copies of this awesome transparent turquoise vinyl.

Close up, held up against the light.

Record Collecting Is War

So I thought I'd made another big step as far as my Modern Life Is War collection is concerned when I found a reasonably priced first press on transluscent blue vinyl aka tour press. Unfortunately it turned out to be a regular copy on purple with the single jacket, which is the latest press on Lifeline. I contacted the seller and he admitted he'd apparently made a mistake and he agreed to refund me a large part of the money. Since I didn't have a copy on purple with the single jacket, it was not a total loss. One more down, even if it wasn't the one I'd hoped for.

The colour is really hard to take a good picture of, so here's a close up.

On a nerd note, I was reading a post by someone on the Rev Collectors messageboard who said he'd received a record with two labels on one side. That got me thinking if I had something like this in my collection, but I couldn't think of any record that came with an extra label on any side. Funnily enough the next record I got in the mail shows exactly that anomaly. Probably doesn't get any nerdier than this.

Keep 'Em Coming

Not much happening here lately, but of course I had to pick up these recent Bane represses. 250 copies on red/black starburst vinyl.

There are another 250 copies of the same vinyl, but they come with a screen-printed sleeve.
