Dischord is one of my favorite record labels ever, for reasons that are manyfold. Having said that, musically speaking my love for the label stems from a very small sample of the labels discography. And I really want to change that. The seller I’d bought the Del Tha Funkée Homosapian LP from for the first time, also had a Dischord record in his inventory I’d never heard of before. It was cheap, so adding it was simple enough. However, as I wrote in a recent post, I threw out a mailer with two records in it most likely, and this was the other one. I managed to replace it quickly and it turned out a cool addition to the collection.
Fire Party featured Amy Pickering on vocals, a focal person of the DC hardcore scene, especially when it comes to the Revolution Summer movement. The other members were involved with the DC scene for a long time as well. What was unusual about the band at the time, and unfortunately still is, is the fact that all of the band members were female. It’s really one of the most disappointing aspects of the hardcore scene that bands have been so male dominated and I am aware that I’m part of the problem as I’ve only had one female band member across three bands I played in.
I’ve really been enjoying listening to this record. A great mix of Revolution Summer hardcore and post-hardcore. Glad I stumbled across this. I definitely need to check out more of the Dischord catalogue.
