Don't Wait Up, What?

I really like doing trades, but at the same time I'm also pretty terrible at it, because I usually have a hard time giving up records from my collection and I don't really have doubles of cool shit that might be considered trade bait. In this case however, it was pretty easy even though I had to give up another Bane test press. But getting a shot at this particular test press was simply too tempting. I agreed with the other party to not disclose any real details on the trade or which number I got (I blacked out the number as you can see in the picture) for personal reasons. I'm fine with that.

My collection of Don't Wait Up is now complete and it would have been a good opportunity to take a nice updated family picture, but I have to admit that I was just too lazy to lay out the whole collection.

Shudder To Think

Another freebie I got with the Uniform Choice LP. I'm not sure what to make of this 7". It's a little all over the place and especially the singer's voice is hard to get used to.

Soul Side

Along with the Uniform Choice LP I got a bunch of 7"s my buddy wanted me to have. They're all Dischord bands I'd meant to check out for a long time and thanks to my buddy I finally have the opportunity. This Souls Side 7" is really good. Cool revolution summer style hardcore. This won't be the last of their releases featured on here.

I-Scream-For-Pink

A long time want for me was an original copy of Screaming For Change. I only have a repress on Wishingwell (have there ever been any bootlegs?) and one of the represses Southern Lord did some time ago. Coloured copies show up rarely and they usually go for a pretty penny. So when a good friend of mine sent me a list with records he was considering selling and there was this beautiful copy on pink vinyl listed, I didn't hesitate. I was okay with paying a little more, because a) it's just a beautiful record, b) it was from a seller in the same country, so shipping was cheap and customs a non-issue, and c) said friend had made me some really good prices in the past. I haven't been that excited about finally holding a record in my hands for a long time, but this was definitely different. Not sure if I want to go down the rabbit hole of collecting all colour variants. Right now I'm very happy with this pink copy.

What We Built

Small gap filler I picked up for cheap along with the Battery LP. Little bit of ring wear, but the record plays fine. Again, if I can upgrade the record at some point, I'll gladly do it. But for now I'm okay with it.

Battered Battery

Only The Diehard Remain by Battery is an LP that is hard to come by, at least if you want to go for the real deal and not that ugly as hell picture disc Lost And Found Records put out. After scouring eBay, message boards and Discogs for months I finally came across a copy and snagged it. When I got the record, I was a little disappointed because the sleeve is banged up a lot. The seller put the description in the wrong line of the excel sheet. It can happen I guess. The record plays fine though and that's the most important part. It will do for listening purposed but if I can upgrade the sleeve, I'll jump right on it.

Sick Of It All

Long time, no see. I know that I stated a while back that I was going to take it slow, but even I didn't expect to take it that slow. I still have some backlog that needs to be blogged about. All in all, this stay-at-home-dad thing is the best thing ever, but I still have to learn how ration my me time.

Quality over quantity has been the motto for 2018 so far. I mainly managed to pick up a few records on my want list at the beginning of 2018. So while I haven't picked up that many (current) records, it's been a pretty good collecting year so far.

I hadn't made any progress with my Sick Of It All 7" collection in quite some time, so I'm really stoked that I finally managed to pick up a first press of SOIA's debut. It's in pretty good shape all in all and I paid a lot less than the going rate.

The first press is numbered /1000. I got #770. When I got the record, of course I examined it closely. As you can see someone scribbled 'My Life' over the number with a blue pen. I didn't know what to make of it, so I decided to consult the almighty  RevCollectors message board and sure enough I got a satisfying answer: apparently there are quite a few copies who came with some sort of scribbling in blue ink. So it seems to be a legit thing. Pretty cool. Would be interesting what other phrases / words were written on the inside of sleeves.

Drug Free Zone

I mainly picked up this record because it was cheap, like 1 or 2€, while I was buying another record from someone, and I was somewhat intrigued by the name. No surprise here really, it's pretty generic sxe hardcore. Good, but not outstanding.

Instilled

I never got to see Chokehold when they were around originally, but I did manage to see them last year when they played a few shows in Europe. I'm sure it was better in the 90s, but that was one good evening. Semi-funny side note, I'm 35 now and I was definitely one of the youngest people at that show. Good for me, but it would be cool if more younger people would still listen to Chokehold. Anyway, said show made me aware that I don't own all Chokehold releases. So here's one more I can cross of my want list. Black vinyl which comes in a black and white cover. Does anyone know which press this is? Discogs hasn't been really helpful here.

Around The World

I've said it before and I'll say it again over and over: ...But Alive were one of the best punk bands from Germany ever. I love the music, I love the lyrics and I love how they maintained the same style of artwork for most of their releases. Despite their decidedly left wing politics and anti-capitalist stance, their records sell for quite some money. Seems like the message is just lost on some people. It took me forever to find a reasonably priced copy. I finally found one from a seller in Japan. What I didn't realize at the time was that this LP was released on two labels: on ...But Alive's own label ...But Alive Records, but also on Propagandhi's G7 Welcome Committee Records. I only realized that when I wanted to read the lyric sheet, because they are printed in English. Kind of a bummer, because I'd like to get a copy with the (correct) German lyric sheet as well. To sum up: I bought a record from a German band which was released on a Canadian label and comes with a lyric sheet in English from a seller in Japan. Punk really brings the world together.

Start Today

Things have been quiet here lately. But between life and work, that's how it goes sometimes. I still have a few records that I bought over the last few weeks that I'm going to post about before things are going to slow down again.

I've managed to pick up most of the variants of this all-time great hardcore record over the last few years, only a red copy had evaded me for the longest time. A few weeks ago, I finally found a reasonably priced copy and best of all, it was still sealed! So not only did I manage to cross this beauty off my list, but this copy is also in pristine condition. I just love it. Now, people may say that it’s stupid to open such a gem, but for me records are meant to be listened to, so keeping it sealed wasn’t really an option for me. Also, how could I other wise have appreciated its full beauty?

No Cure For Death

The first Sect LP was one of better records that was released in the last few years and left me wanting for more. So I was really glad to learn that the band was going to release a new record late in 2017. It was delayed a little bit, but it was well worth the wait. 500 copies on white vinyl. I also like how the band stick with the black and white artwork for all their releases.

Ashes Lie And Wait

Two more songs of 90's hardcore worship by Safe and Sound. Pretty good if you ask me. New Age Records is a pretty good match for this band/release. 200 copies on baby blue marble.
