Getting one step closer to having a colored repress of each Fugazi album. I know that some people don‘t like the later material in the band‘s discography, but I‘m among for the whole ride. There are really good songs on every Fugazi record, including End Hits. This repress comes on what is actually gold vinyl and as always with Fugazi, the color works really well with the album art.

Last record from my recent haul at the local record store. One of the rules I’ve come up for myself is that whenever there’s a record on Dischord from the 80s available at a reasonable price, just buy it. Is every Dischord release from the 80s great? No. Is every 80s Dischord release necessary? Probably not. Can you really go wrong? No. Are all of them enjoyable on some level? You bet. In short, you’re better off buying Dischord releases from the 80s.

Another piece of the Fugazi repress jigsaw puzzle. The songs on Instrument are all over the place, musically speaking, from laid-back instrumental tracks like Afterthought to actual punk-ish songs such as Little Debbie. But I enjoy listening to the whole record very much.
Side note: I still haven’t seen the documentary, which is something I need to change soon. For real this time.

The new year starts smiliarly to how the last one ended: more colored Fugazi represses. Not the most impressive way to kick off the new year for this blog, but on the other hand, it doesn’t get much better either. At this rate I might finish this little side quest pretty soon hopefully.

All the way back in 2016, I posted about 3's Dark Days Coming LP and how much I loved the song Swann Street. Fellow collector massivewaste was kind enough to point out that an alternate version exists, which was released on the State Of The Union compilation. Well, I managed to finally pick up a copy of said comp before a full decade past, if only barely. I really like this comp because you can't go wrong with Dischord in the 80s. The other version of Swann Street is awesome as well, but I prefer the album version.
Why order only one record, well technically a box set, when you can order more? Two more records to cross off my want list. Who says you can’t buy happiness?

A little more than 10 years ago, I started buying Fugazi records. My original resolution to buy one Fugazi record a month didn’t really work out at the time, but I did manage to buy all of their releases. I bought the current represses back then, because I wanted to support a label that truly holds a special place in my heart, not to mention the band itself of course. I bought the now classic s.t. Record round about 10 years ago and I bought all of the Fugazi records more or less in chronological order. I messed up my system though, when I bought a first press of In On The Killtaker, but there’s just something about first presses and I usually can’t help myself but to get them. Which brings me to today’s post. While flipping through the bins at my local record store, I found a first press copy of Fugazi’s s.t. debut. It showed the $5 price on the back cover and after checking the matrix, I knew this was an actual first press. I tried to talk myself out of buying the record, but after about 10 seconds I stopped fooling myself and put it on my pile.
Buying this record puts me in a conundrum. I now have two first presses of Fugazi records and the collector in me screams that this doesn’t feel right and I now need first press copies of all of the Fugazi records, which is something that hadn’t really been on my mind at all until I got this record. I’ve been thinking about replacing my current copies with those really nice looking colored represses Dischord has done these last few years - and I still want to do that, sort of, because Dischord has been doing such a great job with the colors. But do I really need three copies of Fugazi records? Probably not. So buying this record has possibly kicked of a chain of events in the foreseeable future. Luckily this might end up being one of the cheaper micro collections because Dischord is still selling records at Dischord prices (by 2025 standards).

Another band I still have some gaps of in my collection is Fugazi. I have all their full lengths, but there are still some bit and pieces missing. Furniture is a nice three song 7” from 2001, released in the final stage of the band’s existence. The songs however date back to the beginnings of the band. Furniture is actually one of the first songs Fugazi ever wrote and they performed it at their first show. The music for Hello Morning was written in the late 80s, but the lyrics came much later according to Wikipedia. It‘s a fun three song 7“ for sure. I‘m not 100% sure what pressing this is, but my guess is that it‘s a recent repress.

The reason why I assume this is a pretty recent repress is based on the fact that there‘s no ppd price listed on the back cover. For all the versions listed on Discogs there‘s a ppd price printed in front of the address, which is not the case on this sleeve as you can see.
While browsing records at Bis Aufs Messer, I stumbled across this one. I’d never heard of the band, but the cover looked intriguing and after seeing on the back cover that it was released on Dischord and featured members of Rites of Spring and Embrace, it was a no brainer to pick up the record. And what can I say, it sounds exactly what you would an expect from a record recorded in DC in 1986/87 with that personnel. This one was a very pleasant surprise. I also like the coke bottle clear vinyl. It goes very well with the sleeve.
Edit: When I published this post, I hadn’t checked the pressing info for this release. After Marcus had commented on the color and the similarities between the two color pressings, I checked out the Discogs entry for this record. The 2008 repress on clear vinyl says on the back cover “This LP is $11 plus postage.”, where as the 2021 repress does not state a price at all. I checked the sleeve of the record I bought and I have the 2021 repress, which makes the color shown “sea glass green”.

A couple of weeks ago, my band got to play a festival in Berlin with a bunch of awesome German hardcore bands. The festival itself was great. Cool venue, cool people and a general cool vibe for both days. We were supposed to play Sunday night (next day was a holiday) and I had really looking forward to playing that festival. Unfortunately it turned out to be a night to remember for all the wrong reasons. The cops showed up while we set up on stage and we didn't really know what was going on. During the first song my guitar strap broke and after the second song our singer twisted his ankle so badly we had to stop playing and call an ambulance. Not a great evening for us.
Technically, playing the festival was the main reason to go to Berlin, but since Monday was a holiday and my wife and I had time off work, we'd decided to stay in Berlin a little longer. As did some other friends. So we got to hang out with a bunch of friends and enjoy Berlin for a few days. Not a bad deal. Whenever I'm in Berlin, I make sure to go to Bis Aufs Messer record store. One of my favorite record stores to go to. Great selection of records and the owners are always down for a chat. This time I used the opportunity to fill the last gap in my Fugazi collection.
Now, I have to admit that I've never actually seen the documentary this records is the soundtrack for. Talk about being a poser. I guess this is my next item on my to-do list. According to the matrix this is the repress from 2009, which I somehow find hard to believe. The last entry on Discogs is indeed from 2009 and the matrix does match, but still, there hasn't been a more current version in 15 years?

When Marcus posted about an LP by Hammered Hulls, I made a mental note to check out the band. It took me only about a year to actually listen to the band and order a record, which by my standards when it comes to checking out stuff I made a mental note for translates to ‘got it done right away’.
Marcus was right, this album is excellent. The blue copy he got looks really good, but white is an equally good choice I feel. I’m guessing this is the third press.

One of the bigger news last year was that Minor Threat were going to release a new record. It is not a reunion record (luckily), and the songs aren’t new either. The songs you get on this 7” were rediscovered a coupled of years ago and they were recorded around the time when Minor Threat recorded their one and only LP, as the name Out Of Step Outtakes suggest. You get an instrumental track called “The Addams Family” and re-recorded versions of In My Eyes and Filler as a five piece.

I have come to the realization, that I will never own all of the original pressings of Minor Threat records. Even owning most of them is kind of like a pipe dream because prices have skyrocketed these last few years. Especially the 7" prices are crazy. But every once in a while I manage to pick up an OG copy for a good price and that always make me happy. I was always more of a Minor Threat 7" guy, but as I grow older, I got to like Out Of Step much more. Not that I ever thought this was a bad record by any means or that I didn't like it, but the 7"s were so intense and ferocious. Nowadays I can enjoy the journey a band takes much more and Out of Step is on the same level as the first two 7"s. Well, maybe a tad below. Anyway, I was really happy to cross this variant off my want list and add it to the collection.

Ok, this is cheating a little, because I got this record about a year ago. However, this is one of my favorite record covers of all time and I really felt like I should blog about this record. Oh yeah, the music on this sampler is also pretty damn good. The 12 panel poster is awesome as well. I mean, what could you not love about this record, right? Samplers in the early 80s were really something else. Too bad they aren't really a thing anymore.
This is the UK press out of /2000 copies. I wish I had to pay only £3.99 as well... Extra shoutout to Heiner, who was most likely the original owner.
