The Side You Cannot See

A few weeks back I wrote an entry about 411's 7" Say It. Seeing that I really liked that 7", it was kind of a given that I wanted to pick up more of their material.
Last year Workshed Records released a 411 discography, which is a cool way to check out a band. I usually like to buy releases on the format they were originally released on, but the nice things about discographies is that you also get rare compilation tracks and otherwise rare songs, and that's a nice bonus. Plus, sometimes you get liner notes or information about the band's history, which is sadly not the case for this discography, but whatever. Still worth picking up. The Side You Cannot See comes on two colours, white and orange.

Carry Nation

Some more crossing off of Workshed releases. This is a pretty good 7" and I'm really bummed out about the fact that Carry Nation didn't release any other material. I really like the music on this record, plus the lyrics are pretty good too. Grave Mistake is probably my favourite song. There's a version on clear vinyl out there too, but I'm fine with black.

Voicebox

A few weeks back I made a post saying I wanted to get more Workshed records because I'd been intrigued by a thread about that label on the Revcollectors board. I didn't know all the bands on the label, but after seeing some nice collection pictures I thought I'd check out some new old bands. The Voicebox 7" looks awesome. There are so many cool looking colours and transition colours, definitely a nice collectible item. After I'd listened to the 7" for the first time I wasn't quite sure what was supposed to be so special about this band. The singing in particular didn't strike a chord with me initially. But after giving it a couple more spins, I'm kind of digging the record. The overall groove of the two songs is pretty cool. There are still some parts I really don't like (why do hardcore bands want to sound like metal bands?), but all in all this is an okay record. Nothing I'm going to collect though.

Headfirst

A few weeks ago, someone opened a thread about Workshed Records on Revcollectors and all of a sudden, well maybe not that much of a sudden, I saw all kinds of pictures of Workshed releases on Instagram. This made me check my collection and to my dismay I found that I only had one release, the Hard Stance 7". Granted, Workshed didn't release a whole of records, but still. So while I was buying a few other records from this seller on discogs, I also got a copy of Headfirst's LP The Enemy for cheap. Not a bad choice at all. I really like that rock influenced, more groovy style of this record. No idea how many were pressed on black. There's also a version on white vinyl, but no pressing info is known for that colour either.
